Description
This school year we will explore dance concepts such as proper alignment, flexibility, technique, coordination, musicality, dynamics, improvisation, and choreography. In addition, we will learn multiple dance forms, research the culture and history of dance, critique and analyze choreography based on the elements of dance, create and perform original works of choreography, and work towards an awareness of individual artistry.

ELEMENTS OF DANCE NAME/IDENTITY STUDY MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT
50 points

DUE DATES:  Tues Nov 12, 2019 – Research
                                 Wed  Nov 20, 2019 – Movement Assessment & Reflection                                 
(If you will be absent or leaving early for the holidays, you will have a different due date)

OBJECTIVE: Students will research the meaning/etymology of their name to help discover their personal identity/essence (defined as the core nature or most important qualities of a person or thing).  From there students will create a short movement phrase that expresses this sense of identity and incorporates all Elements of Dance. Students can use their birth given name, their nickname OR the name they have personally chosen for themselves

You will given a hardcopy of this Journal Entry at the beginning of class. After you perform or while you wait to perform your assessment you will complete the journal before being dismissed. If absent this day, please email me and I will give you an alternate submission. 

You will also complete an Exit Ticket that you will fill out anonymously (no names).

RESEARCH FOR ELEMENTS OF DANCE ASSESSMENT

DUE DATES:  Tues Nov 12, 2019 – Research Findings                                                                             
 
(If you will be absent or leaving early for the holidays, you will have a different due date)

  • Research the meaning, reason and etymology behind your name:
    • DUE Tues November 12, 2019: A hardcopy of your research either typed or hand-written on
      lined binder paper must be presented at the beginning of class.
      • Ask your guardian(s) why they chose your name.
      • If they do not know, then ask them what attributes (a quality or characteristicof a person, place, or thing) they think connect to your name.
      • If you go by a name your guardian(s) have not chosen, then make notes about why you have chosen your name.
      • Research on Google “Meaning of the name ________________” and “Etymology of the name___________________”

Assignment Guidelines:

  • Watch the video
  • Write down your feedback on a piece of binder paper in this format:
    1. Something the group did well (Ex. We did the monster walk all together OR we all were low during the walks before the chorus)
    2. Something the group can work on (Ex. We should work on making our lines more straight OR We need to work on the counts for the Chorus)
  • You must start your feedback with WE, you are not allowed to write down anyone's names or only talk about yourself.
  • Do NOT put your name on the piece of paper.
    • You will give it to me when I take roll and I will check off that you have turned it in when taking roll.
  • You MUST turn this in by the beginning of class for credit, if you do not turn it in you will get a 0 for this assignment.
    • If you are absent tomorrow please email me your work by 9am tomorrow Oct 25th.
