CLASS SYLLABUS
Class Description: The Digital Photography Class is designed to provide self-directed
and advanced instruction and knowledge of digital photography. Students will also use Adobe
Photoshop editing software or Photopea.com editing software to create digital portfolio
projects and individual photos.
Some finished photos will be printed and showcased online on a weekly basis.
Students will learn how to take well composed photographs using their own digital
cameras. Emphasis will be placed on basic camera handling skills,
reading and understanding of their camera’s operations manual, compositional
guidelines, and proper utilization of natural light and electronic flash, film speeds and
lens capabilities. Many of the lessons are with supplemental tutorials videos from Youtube or that I created on Streams.
Students are expected to have their own point-and-shoot or SLR digital cameras (6 mega-
pixels minimum). In addition students may need access to a computer outside of class
time to complete assignments. All students will get equal time working on class
computers with Photoshop.
Objectives: Demonstrate knowledge of photographic techniques and materials. Learn to
use Photoshop techniques to produce a work of art. Examine and analyze professional
and peer produced examples of digital imaging artwork. Develop visual literacy. Create
art and a portfolio of great photographs.
Course Outline:
Digital Camera: Megapixels and what they mean, storage devices and memory cards,
input and transfer data. 2. Computer: Input devices (USB, flash drives, card readers,
DVD’s) 3. Software: Adobe Photoshop
