The 7th Grade Social Studies curriculum is fantastic! We will start with Rome at its height and look at the different elements that contributed to its fall. It didn't crumble into the ocean by the way. When we look at civilizations we speak of how they "rose and fell." We will then see what Europe looked like during the Dark Ages and how it emerged into the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution. In the 2nd Trimester we will be looking what was going on during the same time period (the Middle Ages = 500 CE to 1500 CE) in South & Central America. After studying the great civilizations of the Aztec, Inca, and Maya over there, we'll look at China and Japan and examine what their civilizations were like then too. We will finish up the year with a unit on the spread of Islam throughout the Arabian Peninsula and into Northern Africa and beyond. Lastly, we will have a final unit that looks at the Middle Ages in Ghana and Mali, two West African Cultures. What an incredible year of learning and exploration! I'm so excited. It was so lovely to see so many familiar faces from last year. I'm so lucky to get to work with some of you two years in a row! And to my newbies: warmest welcome!

- Argument Category Review - we will review the prevailing theories for the Fall of Rome and then students will line up for the argument gauntlet. ##### # Bad Leadership ~ Over-expansion ~ Economic Problems ~ Plague ~ Invasions ~ Military Problems
- The "Gauntlet" - You will face off against many different opponents as you argue for why one of your three favorite reasons for the fall is paramount. You will have 1 minute to spar before I say shift. One line will remain stationary while the other line will shift so that you see as many different opponents in the gauntlet as possible. THIS WAS SOOOO FUN!
