Description
This school year we will explore dance concepts such as proper alignment, flexibility, technique, coordination, musicality, dynamics, improvisation, and choreography. In addition, we will learn multiple dance forms, research the culture and history of dance, critique and analyze choreography based on the elements of dance, create and perform original works of choreography, and work towards an awareness of individual artistry.

3-Day Yoga Workout Assignment

This will be turned in on Teams

Instructions

Do a yoga workout video 3 days this week as a way to decompress and relax. 

Instructions:

1) Select one of the three yoga workout videos provided below to do (you can try all three videos out, or just pick one video to do for three days.)

2) After you finish your workout, you will use FlipGrid to record a 30 second video of your favorite part of the yoga workout. This video submission is private and only I will be able to view it. (If FlipGrid is not working please message me separately.)

  • Since you are assigned to do yoga 3 days this week, you will have three different video submissions.
  • You can get creative with your submissions!! Upload a timelapse, do the workout with a partner, add filters, add emojis, etc.

3) You will enter your workout in your personal fitness log in the Class Notebook . You will record the date, type of activity, strand of fitness and the minutes spent doing the activity.

  • It is easiest to access if you select "Open in Browser" in the toolbar at the top.
  • You will fill it out just like you would record a run day or a cardio day in your PE Handbook. I created a template that is similar.
  • In the Office 365 Class Notebook, which I have created here on Teams. You each have your own personal section with your name. In your personal section you will find a Fitness Log page.
  • Watch this tutorial on how to access.

4) After completing your three days of yoga (including submitting the video clip to FlipGrid and entering your workout in the fitness log) you will select “turned in” in the upper right hand corner for this Assignment in Teams.

  • If you do not do this then it will notify you that you "missed an assignment"

I will check your Fitness Logs by Sun Mar 22 at 11:59pm, for you to receive credit.

1-Day Dance Warm-Up/Technique/Phrase Workout Assignment

This will be turned in on Teams

Instructions

Do this dance workout one day this week (or more if you would like too!). Do the best you can with the space you have!

Instructions:

1) Do the dance video workouts in this order:

(Fun fact: I went to college with Ms. Auti!)

  • If you feel a dance move is too challenging, then you can use the skills you have gained through class, Improvisation, and the Elements of Dance to create a substitute dance move. (i.e. You can do a parallel jazz pirouette instead of the turned out ballet pirouette.)
  • Encourage your family to join to you! It may be fun!

2) You will use FlipGrid to record ONLY the dance phrase you chose to learn. It's very important to do the warm-up & technique (don't skip it), but you don't need to record it. This video submission is private and only I will be able to view it. (If FlipGrid is not working please message me separately.)

Dance History Quiz is Fri Feb 28th. We will meet in the Library, and the quiz will be done with Chromebooks.
 
There will be 8 questions for each dance form (Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Modern).
All questions will be multiple choice and worth 1 pt each.

8 extra credit questions will be offered. (You can earn up to 3 points extra credit. Final score will not exceed 35 points.)

OBJECTIVE: Students will research the meaning/etymology of their name to help discover their personal identity/essence (defined as the core nature or most important qualities of a person or thing).  From there students will create a short movement phrase that expresses this sense of identity and incorporates all Elements of Dance. Students can use their birth given name, their nickname OR the name they have personally chosen for themselves

      lined binder paper must be presented at the beginning of class.

  • Watch the video
  • Write down your feedback on a piece of binder paper in this format:
    1. Something the group did well (Ex. We did the monster walk all together OR we all were low during the walks before the chorus)
    2. Something the group can work on (Ex. We should work on making our lines more straight OR We need to work on the counts for the Chorus)
