Language Arts 6 (Period 5, 6)

Course Description

LANGUAGE ARTS 6/2017.18

In accordance with the California Language Arts Content Standards, this course covers standards-based instruction in vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and written literary response and analysis. Students study reading through culturally and historically significant literary works and a variety of high-interest informational pieces directly related to the literary selections.

The PVPUSD Intermediate schools have adopted a new textbook series called StudySync. Students will be using this web-based textbook to learn about language arts in LA6. Core reading novels for LA6 include Hatchet, Freedom Walkers and another optional novel selected by Mr. White if time permits. More information to follow about access, teacher posting of assignments, and other important classroom procedures!

Read the entire syllabus and sign/print the last page only. Please bring to class by Friday, September 1st!

If you were absent this week (2/5-2/9)...

Hey students! Many of you were out this week with the flu. If that was you, then read below what you should do! (Notice the rhyme? ;) )

1. Check the master copy of the journal entries and the absent journal folder in the back of class to make sure you are caught up. (Journal #17: "The Circuit")

2. Complete the First Read of "The Circuit" in studysync: This includes reading and annotating the text, and answering Think Questions #1-3. (Remember ACE for Think Questions!) If you were absent, your questions are due by next Monday night, 2/12.

3. Take a peak at "The Circuit" Writing Task- point of view in studysync. We worked on a rough draft today (in journal #17) and will continue a rough draft in our journals tomorrow. Look in the "read" tab where I have broken down the writing prompt for you. If you were absent, your final draft of your writing task will be due next Tuesday night 2/13 via studysync.

**Reminder for Friday 2/9

Hey LA students!

Reminder #1: Work on "The Circuit" mini essay rough draft tonight! Please do not work for more than 20 minutes :) We will dedicate class time tomorrow to finishing the rough draft and begin working on our final draft.

Reminder #2: If you did not submit your Think Questions for "The Circuit," then you have that to complete as well. I stated in class earlier this week that they needed to be due before class today, but studysync said it would be due by midnight. So, if you have not finished those yet, please do them tonight by midnight. (These were assigned on Tuesday and we have dedicated plenty of class time).

See you tomorrow!
Mrs. Molyneux
